In Touch with Beth
Beth, on www.tribeworld.com, Amber’s called the "one with the motherly instincts." Is this how you’d describe her ?
She’s got natural leadership ability, not just motherly. She’s caring, but finds the idea of being a mother difficult. Amber wants things to go well for the future in a societal way.
Do you feel motherly towards the other actors ?
Not now. In Tribe 1, we were the older guys (14-15) but there are some much older actors now, like the Guardian.
Do you have much input into what the characters say ?
Not really, because the scripts come from the UK. On a day-to-day basis we can change bits to make it sounds more how a kid would say it.
You’ve been on telly since you were really young, how has that affected you ?
It’s really made me grow up a lot. I did another series where I was around adults a lot and it’s taught me to take on a really professional attitude.
Are you always getting asked for autographs in the streets ?
No! I’m not spotted on the street. I was recognised in London one of the first times! It hasn’t really happened before.
How much say do you have with Amber’s image ?
The make up and wardrobe crew do most of the creating, but they say if we’re not comfortable wearing it, we won’t be comfortable acting it. So, it’s fine.
Is acting your life then ?
My parents are very proud of me, but I do have other things to fall back on. A film director said to me "If you lose your face in a car crash, what will you do?" so I decided I’d go to university.
You’ve chosen a good country to be in acting. New Zealand’s film industry is really up and coming.
Yes, it’s a good place to be. Also, Cloud 9 (production company) like to re-use their kids.
How do you most like to relax ?
Hanging out with family and friends. I like driving around in my car, playing hockey, going to the gym and watching movies. My favourite movies are "Romeo and Juliet", "American Beauty" and "Austin Powers". I love Brad Pitt and Jude Law. Acting-wise – Robert De Niro, Edward Norton and Mina Suvari are great.
So, have you got a boyfriend ?
Maybe someone in mind !
Are you worried about getting typecast in sci-fi roles ?
No, I’m only 16 and doing well so far! I intend to keep working hard. I don’t wanna get typecast!
